May 19, 2020 (SSNN) – The former governor of the defunct Buma state Gen. David Yau Yau who met President Salva Kiir Mayardit last week is among 57 people whose COVID-19 test results came back positive yesterday, a government official who said he himself is COVID-19 positive has said.

“General David Yau Yau has tested positive for coronavirus,” the official who refused to be named said in a phone call with South Sudan News Now (SSNN).

“No one is safe, nor the president or the first vice president. I myself I am coronavirus positive but I and many others who have been found positive are quarantining in our homes and doctors will be coming.

The source said Yau Yau was tested on April 27, days before he met President Salva Kiir Mayardit following his return from Pibor administrative area. The source said Yau had to request for a second test as he was in doubt.

“Yau Yau’s samples were collected on April 27 and when the results came positive, he requested another test whose results came back positive again,” the source added.
