VP Taban, spy chief Akol Koor dispatched to Kampala for secret meeting

June 16, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan’s president, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has reportedly dispatched a high-level delegation to the neighboring Uganda to meet the country’s president and its military chief.

This comes after reports that President Salva Kiir Mayardit and main armed opposition leader and now First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny were invited to the Egyptian capital Cairo for a face-to-face meeting next week.

Speaking to South Sudan News Now this afternoon, a senior government official said President Salva Kiir Mayardit yesterday dispatched Vice-president Taban Deng Gai and the national security chief Gen. Akol koor for a meeting with Museveni in Kampala.

He said the South Sudan officials will discuss with the Ugandan authorities the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement and particularly the implementation of the transitional security arrangements.

“The vice-president, H.E Taban Deng Gai has travelled to Uganda. He was send by the President of the Republic alongside the director of internal security bureau General Akol Koor,” the official said.

He further said that officials “will discuss the peace implementation and in particular the security arrangements.”
