June 23, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan’s Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi has this afternoon meet First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny following his return from Northern Bahr el Ghazal where he accompanied the body of his father who passed away last week.

In a statement, Machar’s office said the two men, who also just recovered from COVID-19, the respiratory sickness caused by the novel coronavirus, discussed the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

“Vice President, H.E. Hussein Abdel Bagi Akol, today paid a courtesy call to the First Vice President, H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny,” Machar’s office said in the statement seen by South Sudan News Now.

“The two leaders discussed issues pertaining to the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS),” the statement added.

In a related development, according to the statement, Machar “held a meeting with Elders from the defunct Jubek state.”

“The Elders congratulated H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Dr. Machar on reaching a breakthrough on allocations of the 10 states,” it further added.
