Dec 6th, 2019 (SSNN)-The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) said on Friday that its staff were able to visit one of the flood-affected areas of Pibor and conduct risk assessments in an attempt to understand the level of flood damage.

“This week we visited Pibor to assess damage caused by flooding that has devastated the area since August.”

The aid agency said that although the floods have decreased significantly, local population affected by the floods are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance.

“The flood water has receded and locals are in dire need of humanitarian assistance,” said the USAID. Adding that, “Through partners such as the World Food Program and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, USAID has been assisting people in need.”

According to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), devastating floods have submerged villages, forcing millions to flee their homes and causing 60 percent of the population to face acute malnutrition.
