US, Sudanese and Japanese outgoing envoys pay Machar farewell visit

June 18, 2020 (SSNN) – Outgoing Sudanese and United States ambassadors to Juba this afternoon visited South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny, and informed him that their mission was ending soon, a spokesman for Machar said.

James Gatdet Dak, the official spokesman for the SPLM-IO leader said those who paid a visit to Machar include the US ambassador to Juba, Thomas Hushek, Sudanese ambassador to Juba, Mustafa Adil Ibrahim and Japanese ambassador Seiji Okada.

“A number of outgoing Ambassadors paid a courtesy call today, Thursday, 18 June 2020, to the First President of the Republic, H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny,” Gatdet said in a statement seen by South Sudan News Now.

Dak said the diplomats “informed the First Vice President that their terms were coming to an end soon and that expected new incoming Ambassadors [who] will be continuing to represent their respective countries in the Republic of South Sudan.”

“They congratulated the Parties to R-ARCSS for reaching a breakthrough on the allocations of the 10 states, and encouraged further cooperation in the implementation of the rest of the peace agreement.”

The statement further added that the DRC ambassador to Juba Rene Illume

“also met with the First Vice President today and discussed matters of bilateral relations between South Sudan and DRC.”
