Unity State Community in Kenya demands appointment of State Governors
June 11, 2020 (SSNN) — Petitioning South Sudan presidency to establish State and Local governments, Unity State Community in Kenya demands that their governor must be appointed now without further delay.
“We want our governor now, so that together we can embark on unity and reconciliation drive in earnest. Should this logical demand be ignored and delayed than it will be very unfortunate to have crowded Presidency that has ears which cannot hear us in our time of need.” Said the leadership of Dak Buoth, the chairperson who speaks on behalf of Bentiu-Nuer community in Kenya.
According to Unity State leadership in Kenya, there can’t be unity among the presidency if they can’t agree on the allocation of the state and local governments.
“We are annoyed and angered by your continued lack of unanimity in appointing the ten state Governors of South Sudan. In February 2020, you took oath of office in public, to implement the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCISS).” Dak continued.
Dak believes that the blatant disregard to the peace agreement is a betrayal to the people of South Sudan and also to the international community.
“This sign of disunity is double betrayal to an impoverish South Sudanese and the international community. Your lack of commitment and consensus is becoming worse. And the absence of state Governors is uncalled for.” Dak reiterates.
The presidency which comprised of President Kiir, First Vice President Machar and four more deputies was sworn in four months ago but so far no further progress has been made.
Dak explains that without state governments the suffering of South Sudanese people may worsen by July.
“If they will have no governor and county commissioners again in this June and July many shall perish in huge number. The antidote therefore is for you to nominate our governor sooner than later. We don’t mind who do the nomination, and we don’t care who s/he is as long as s/he a son and daughter of Unity State.” He continued.
Due to lack of governments in the states, inter-communal conflicts have intensified as communities are arming themselves in large number.
