Nov 22nd, 2019 (SSNN)-The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has urged citizens to maintain positive expectations and wait patiently for the Parties to the R-ARCSS to complete unimplemented pre-transitional tasks during this 100-days extended pre-transitional period.

Speaking to the press in the capital Juba, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, David Shearer acknowledged that the extended 100-days pre-transitional period is not enough, unless the parties make a compromise and accelerate the implementation of outstanding issues.

“If you look at all the things that they need to do with the demobilization, who knows how many thousand people in their re-integration, will it happen in 100 days? We know that it’s impossible it has never happened in any other country in the world but the start is there and if the momentum continues and the political will continues that’s very possible that by the end of 100 days, we will have enough momentum that we can get forward,” said head of UNMISS David Shearer.

He therefore urged the parties to chart the way forward by implementing outstanding issues.

“Everybody believes and thinks that after the 100 days, we might not have everything complete but what we are really looking for is to be in a position where things are moving forward sufficiently. Where everybody goes yes this is working,” he said.

The head of UNMISS called for urgent action on a number outstanding issues, including the number of states and their boundaries, reunification forces and security arrangements.

“I have confidence that we can have a transitional government and we will continue to move forward and we will continue to unify the forces and do all other things,” he noted.
