April 17th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Unity state students in neighboring Uganda have issued a statement of condolence after the departure of General Peter Gatdet Yaka who died on Monday in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

Relatives and close aides to Gen. Gatdet confirmed in a statement quoted by the Nyamilepedia on Monday night that Gatdet died of heart attack at a private hospital in the Sudanese capital Khartoum following a short battle against high-blood pressure.

“It’s with shock and dismay to learn the untimely departure of one of the greatest leaders and fathers of
Unity State, Fearless General Peter Gatdet Yak who passed on yesterday on Monday 15th April, 2019 at
around 8 PM local time in Khartoum, Sudan,” said a statement signed by the leader of Unity state students in Uganda, Wiek Bol Reath.

“It is really a tragic moment and great loss especially to the people of Unity/Lich State, the Nuer
community and indeed to the people of South Sudan losing a fearless General like him,” Bol added.

Bol further praised General Gatdet’s role during the liberation struggle describing him as a ‘freedom fighter’, a description mostly used by the public supporting opposition groups fighting the current civil war against the government of president Salva Kiir Mayardiit.

“Late General Gatdet was a liberator and lion-hearted freedom fighter who dedicated his entire life
defending his people,” he said.
