July 24, 2020 (SSNN) – United States President Donald J. Trump has given South Sudan economist and former National Security Service (NSS) detainee, Peter Biar Ajak, a refuge in the United States after fears that Kiir’s NSS operatives were looking for him in Nairobi.

“Thank you President @realDonaldTrump for saving my family+me & giving us refuge in the USA after I fled a death squad sent by South Sudan President Salva Kiir. WITHOUT YOU, I’D BE DEAD. Kiir has ruled 9 yrs with an iron fist never facing an election – they MUST happen in Dec ‘21,” Peter Biar wrote on Twitter.

Biar was wrongly detained in July 2018 for two years for allegedly cooperating with rebels and working against the state. He was released as part of the revitalized peace agreement which provided for the release of political detainees.

He then fled to Kenya where he remained but said in May this year that his life was in danger and that he was not safe because South Sudan security operatives were trying to have him in trouble.
