Former Sudanese President Omar Hassan said al-Bashir

December 30th, 2019 (SSNN)—At least 29 intelligence officers of former Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir have been convicted and sentenced to death by hanging after being accused of brutally killing a school teacher while in custody – the Sudanese authorities said on Monday.

According to Sudanese media, the school’s teacher, Ahmed al-Khair, 36, was subjected to severe torture and inhuman degradation before being killed.

Ahmed was arrested for participating in the protests against the government of President Omar al-Bashir.

Ahmad’s arrest and killing sparked widespread condemnation in Sudan, which triggered protests and eventually resulted in the military overthrow of former Sudanese leader Omar Hassan al-Bashir in April.

According to eyewitnesses, a large number of demonstrators were seen protesting in front of a Sudanese court in Omdurman near the capital Khartoum, on December 30, 2019, during the trial of the accused intelligence agents.
