SSSUU members distance themselves from those who support 32 states
February 12, 2020 (SSNN)—Members of South Sudan Students Union in Uganda (SSSUU) – a students organization currently based in Uganda, have strongly condemned their colleagues after issuing a statement supporting the 32 states without consulting others about the decision.
“We strongly condemn this action taken by some individuals without consulting the entire members of the organization,” said Malieth Malek Dap, a member of SSSUU.
Malieth said that SSSUU is an independent and impartial body that does not support any political parties, or have political affiliation with the government or other opposition factions in the country.
“South Sudan Students Union in Uganda is non political organization as it is written in the Constitution, in which we don’t see any reason as to why President Deng Bona is showing his interest in the political game of South Sudan.”
The students called on the individual responsible for the statement to apologize for tarnishing the image of the organization.
“Deng Bona must apologize for using this organization as his personal institution without consulting the students body.”
The issue of the 32 states and their boundaries has become a sticking point, blocking the formation of the unity government.
On Sunday, the IGAD Council of Ministers recommended that the number of states be reduced to 23 or 10 states, but the government delegations opposed the proposal and asked the mediators to give them more time for consultations.
