SSOA strongly welcomes Kiir’s decision on the number of states

February 15, 2020 (SSNN)—The South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), a coalition of opposition groups, has been ‘extremely delighted’ and welcomed the bold step undertaken by President Salva Kiir in returning the country to its previous 10 states.

“The entire leadership of SSOA is extremely delighted with the bold and patriotic decision taken by our Pesident Gen, Salva Kiir Mayardit to resolve the stalemate over the number and boundaries of states by reverting to 10 states and 3 Administrative Areas. This is the will and demand of the people.

The opposition groups hail President Kiir for putting the citizens’ interests above all considerations.

“The leadership of SSOA together with its members across the country and beyond, congratulates the President for putting the interest and unity of the country above partisan interests.”

The SSOA said that the bold step taken by the Presidency has prevented the country from descending into another deadly conflict that could claim more lives.

“This courageous and wise decision has not only averted plunging the country into deeper crises, but will no doubt pull the diverse people of our beloved country together and restore hope.”

“The South Sudan Opposition Alliance has fully participated in the implementation of the Pre-Transitional tasks. We are fully committed to a complete and faithful implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement (R- ARCSS 2018), With the major outstanding issues now resolved, SSOA is looking forward to the formation of the RTGONU on time by 22 February 2020 instant.”

“As a key Party to the revitalised Agreement, SSOA now calls upon all Parties to the Agreement to work closely with the President of the Republic to put our country back on the road to peace, stability and development.”
