SSOA has ‘plan B’ if Kiir insists on allocating Jonglei – official
June 25, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) has a plan B if President Salva Kiir Mayardit insists on allocating Jonglei state to the opposition consortium, a senior member of the Alliance has said.
Wazir Michael Liah, the spokesman for the Federal Democratic Party (FDP) and a senior member of the SSOA, told South Sudan News Now that the group may consider the nomination of Denay Jok Chagor, the minister of higher education, for the governorship of the state if Kiir refused to allocate the oil-rich Upper Nile state to the group.
“We have submitted our complaint to the President on the matter in question and the Alliance has a plan B in case he refused to give us the Upper Nile state,” Michael said from Juba this morning.
“The plan B is that if Kiir insists that we take Jonglei state, then we will nominate Denay Jok Chagor, and then he will be replaced with someone from SSOA members who have not been represented in the R-TGoNU cabinet,” he added.
The opposition official said the refusal by the Alliance to Jonglei state is what is delaying the appointment of state governors denying reports that SPLM-IO and the SSOA have refused the appointment of state governors if the parliament in Juba is not reconstituted.
“The disagreement over Jonglei and Upper Nile is what is delaying the appointment of state governors. The reports we see on social media that deadlock over the reconstitution of the parliament was delaying that action are not true,” he said.
