SPLM official criticizes Machar for appointing “incompetent” Achuei as health minister
June 5, 2020 (SSNN) – A senior member of South Sudan’s ruling SPLM party has criticized SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny for appointing an “incompetent” person into the ministry of health blaming him for the ongoing health crisis imposed by the coronavirus.
Daniel Awet Akot, former presidential advisor on military affairs and senior member of the SPLM Political Bureau said during the swearing in ceremony for new Presidential Affairs Minister Nhial Deng Nhial that Machar had appoint Achuei just to gains loyalty.
“My brother Dr. Riek nominated the minister of health because of issues of his percentage [in the revitalized peace agreement], hoping that she [Achuei] would deliver,” said Daniel Awet on Thursday.
“Yes, position can be given, but they have to be given with a meaning. This is just because I have someone here and there,” he added.
Machar has also been criticized by some within the group for appointing Achuei who many said has not formal education and the badly needed experience to handle the work of the ministry of health.
