SPLM-IO leadership convenes consultative meeting, issues resolutions
Dec 10th, 2019 (SSNN)-The leadership of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) has convened a Consultative Meeting with its peace Mechanisms in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, with the aim of reviewing progress made in the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
“The SPLM/SPLA (IO) Peace Mechanisms conducted a consultative meeting with the SPLM/SPLA (IO) leadership in Khartoum on December 8th, 2019. The meeting reviewed progress and challenges in the peace implementation during the extended 100 days of the Pre-Transitional Period. After extensive deliberations, the meeting,” the statement issued by the SPLM-IO partly reads.
Following the conclusion of the meeting, the SPLM-IO issued resolutions, encouraging its peace mechanisms to forge ahead with the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
And the main armed opposition group however, “regrets that the funds meant for implementation of the agreement has not yet been availed.”
The opposition party also called on Kiir’s government to release, in a timely manner, the remaining funds earmarked for the implementation of the Pre-transitional activities in accordance with the agreement.
It also “notes with concern the delay in implementation of the outstanding critical tasks and lack of funding. Therefore, urges the Parties to the Agreement, stakeholders, mechanisms and Guarantors to adhere to the letter and spirit of the Agreement.”
The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-IO leadership condemned the recent fighting between its forces and a breakaway faction’s forces loyal to Major General James Ochan Puot.
“The [SPLM-IO] condemns in the strongest terms possible the recent attack on our areas by SSPDF under General James Ochan Puot in Adar State. This incident is a grave violation of R-ARCSS, it is also a bad faith on the part of the Government.”
