Responding to Taban Group’s press release, Dut Majokdit, who is a member of the SPLM-IO National Council, said that the Vice-president is attempting to create another situation that is likely to jeopardize the implementation of the peace agreement.

The row arose after a faction of lawmakers affiliated and loyal to Vice-president Taban accused President Salva Kiir Mayardit of violating the revitalized peace agreement.

This was after they were excluded from state governments which they claim violate their share of power as provided for by the 2018 peace agreement.

“What I am seeing is that Taban and his group are trying to create a situation in which the peace implementation is compromised and people return to war,” Majokdit cautioned.

He went ahead to emphasize that the Vice-president has no legitimate grounds to call off the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

He figured that it is not good for a person holding such an important position in the unity government that was formed for the purposes of peace to make a careless call that undermines the same peace he is part of.

Majokdit observed that the vice-president only had SPLM-IG leader, Salva Kiir to blame citing it is he who had the right to nominate any person of his choice within the ruling faction.

He continued saying that Taban should not demand for a separate representation because previously he had announced the dissolution of his group to join the SPLM-IG.

He noted that the agreement had many stakeholders among them SPLMG-IO, SSOA and the OPP and therefore Taban had no right to hold them all hostage.

“He should not also not make efforts to undermine the peace deal because he has dissolved hi faction and joined President Salva Kiir’s group, and this mean President Salva Kiir has all the prerogative to nominate any person of his choice to all the positions allocated to his group,” concluded Majokdit.
