May 26, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, has denied rumors on social media that First Vice President and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar has dismissed the SPLA-IO chief of staff Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual.

A letter circulating on social media announced the dismissal of Gen. Gatwech Dual and that he has been replaced with Gen. Gabriel Duop Lam.

In a statement, Machar’s press secretary James Gatdet Dak dismissed the “forgery” and said there was no any rality in it as names of those involved in the online letter have been mistakenly written.

“Please dismiss this photoshopped (forged) document by desperate social media anti-peace elements. Social media is being misused and abused nowadays,” Machar’s press secretary James Gatdet Dak wrote on social media.

“We don’t even have Lt. General JAMES Duop Lam, but rather Lt. General GABRIEL Duop Lam. And the Chief of Staff is a 1st Lt. General, not a Lt. General as the forged document puts it,” he added.

“1st Lt. General Simon Gatwech Dual is the Chief of Staff. Disregard the fake news.”
