SPLA-IO general dies of coronavirus in Juba
May 19, 2020 (SSNN) – A South Sudan main armed opposition military general has died on Monday in Juba of COVID-19 which is caused by the novel coronavirus, officials have confirmed.
Maj. Gen. Ohisa Robert passed away in Juba on Monday died in the capital Juba after he was rushed to the Dr. John Garang Center for Infectious Diseases after a week-long battle with coronavirus.
“Major General Ohisa Robert died yesterday (Monday) after he contracted the coronavirus. He had struggled with the virus at home and after he was taken to the hospital, it was too late and he passed away there,” one source said.
Separately, SPLM-IO governor of Imatong state Nathaniel Pierino confirmed Robert’s death but said the cause was a “short illness.”
“Maj. Gen. Ohisa Robert passed on in Juba after short illness on this day,” he said.
