SPLA-IO commander dies in Khartoum

June 24, 2020 (SSNN) – A senior member of South Sudan’s main armed opposition group, SPLM/SPLA (IO), has died in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, relatives and friends have told South Sudan News Now.
Brigadier General Gatluak Nhial Tut died in the Sudanese capital this week following a long sickness, according to a relative.
“General Gatluak Nhial passed away in Khartoum this week. He has been under treatment for a while in Khartoum,” one relative said from Khartoum on Tuesday.
Another relative said the late general was a prominent member of the group’s division in Northern Upper Nile state. He said he was evacuated to Khartoum last year following the deterioration of his health conditions.
“He was deployed in Northern Upper Nile state. After he fall sick, he was taken to Khartoum where he passed on this week,” the relative who spoke to South Sudan News Now on condition of anonymity said.
