December 31st, 2019 (SSNN)—A South Sudanese woman who disappeared from Bidibidi refugee settlement, Uganda a few weeks ago, has been found dumped, the Ugandan media reported on Tuesday.

According to the Yumbe District Police Commander, Mr Moses Olang, the victim identified as Mary Naka, was sexually assaulted before being brutally murdered by unidentified individuals.

“The body of Naka which was decomposing was found covered with grass in the bush by some women who went to collect fire wood. Our preliminary investigations indicate that she was raped before she was murdered,” he said.

The police chief confirmed that no suspect had been arrested in connection with the case.

South Sudan has descended into violence, and since the war broke out in mid-December 2013, an estimated 4.3 million people have been forced to flee to refugee camps.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees estimates that 63 per cent of those who have fled the country are under 18 years.
