June 10, 2020 (SSNN) – The first deputy governor of South Sudan Central Bank (SSCB) Maror Chier Rehan has died of COVID-19 in the Kenyan capital Nairobi after he was airlifted from South Sudan last week, a source in Juba with direct knowledge has said.

Rehan reportedly succumbed into the virus after almost two weeks of battle at a private hospital in Juba after which he was transferred to Dr. John Garang Center for Infectious Diseases then to Nairobi last week.

“The deputy governor of the South Sudan Central Bank has passed away on Tuesday evening at a private hospital in Nairobi, Kenya,” the source told South Sudan News Now.

“He has been at a private clinic here in Juba almost two weeks ago and transferred to Kenya for further medical treatment and unfortunately died,” the source added.

South Sudan News Now has also learned that the governor himself has been infected with the virus but could not gather relevant information on the issue.
