South Sudanese Welcome Sanctions of FVP Taban Deng Gai For Deadly Human Rights Abuses And Abuse of Power
January 10, 2020(SSNN) — Reacting to the news of sanctions, travel ban and property monitoring on the First Vice President, Gen. Taban Deng Gai, who has been sanctioned by the United States of America for his involvement on deadly human rights violations, blocking the implementation of peace and for undermining reconciliation efforts in the country, many South Sudanese on social media applauded the Trump Administration and encourage the US to do more.
“This is the best news ever of 2020! The tyrants in J1 never had second throughs that there’s God for the poor watching their evil acts, and would respond in different ways.” Said Simon Chop.
“USA has just been beating around the bush. What you don’t know is that people of South Sudan are please about these steps. You are a human right abuser. Tell us whose hands is behind the disappearance of the DUO.
My president, Gen. SKM and Akol Koor are not all that evil. They have never taken part in assassinating the future…. They only arrest and pardon people I.e G10, James Gadet Dak, Peter Biar and Kerbino Wol. They do this because they are very mindful about the future of this nation.” Appollo A Anyang.
“Gen. Taban, the best thing to get out of all these is to provide necessary informations to safe the life of your children and family members, not you. You did more distractions which the world and we cannot be forgotten neither forgiven. You destroyed the future of thousands in the country South Sudan in less than a decade.” Said another commentator, Gatwich Koang Toang.
Based on investigative reports, he First Vice President, who grabbed the position of the First Vice President after a dogfight that dislodged his former chairman, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, has been alleged to have been involved in acts that constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity and as a result, the Trump Administration has sanctioned the second most powerful man in the war-torn nation which include banning him from entering the United States and also from investing directly or indirectly in the US.
Reacting to the sanctions, Gen. Taban has tried to deny the allegations, however, he is met with more forces on social media from the South Sudanese intellectuals and friends.
” As a leader I have been working toward achieving peace and sustainable development in this country, and I won’t do anything that could put this country in jeopardy, because of political self-gains.” Gen. Taban wrote.
The last two days, the First Vice president and his spokesman have found themselves on the minority side as they are being constantly bombarded with insults, laughters and bullying other South Sudanese who stands for the sanctions.
Among the charges quoted in the sanctions is the involvement of Gen. Taban in the extrajudicial killing of critics in attempt to silence freedom of press and critics from exposing corruptions and other illegal activities, a crime the First Vice President found himself committing on social media even at a time he was trying to deny the allegations.
“”Or else I will be deleting individual’s comments…”This is the clear reason why American Government has sanction you. Intimidation is your spoon. Useless.” One intellectual, Laurence Chieng Biel remind the FVP.
While debating the intellectuals on Facebook, Taban had to be reminded a few times to stop intimidating or threatening critics who were voicing their opinions on social media.
Disturbed, Taban and his spokesman have issued three statements within 24 hours both on social media and on media mainstream, however, their responses seem a little too late.
Since it was introduced, no leader has even been removed from the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act sanctions list within less than 120 days, therefore, a reverse of these sanctions may take a while.
A few supporters have tried to sympathize for the First Vice President; however, the reacting force from the other side seems to outweigh the outcry against the sanctions.
“Trump administration is becoming so reckless that they throw stones anyhow to anyone without evidence. The country is behind you our leaders to restore peace and stability and you should never be distracted by these clueless Trump!?” Said Cornelius Khan, one known supporter of the FVP.
For every one positive comment he gets, the First Vice President gets 4 or 5 negative comments and eventually he was forced to quit the most busiest status he has ever seen on his social media since he joined the platform.
The sanctions haven’t taken their full effects so far as sanctioned individuals like Gen. Paul Malong are currently touring Europe despite that they were sanctioned by the US and the United Nations; however, the South Sudanese have began to understand and appreciate the role individual sanctions could play to restore peace if they were more strict and effective.
