January 24th, 2020 (SSNN)—Somalia, South Sudan and Syria have been ranked among the most corrupt countries in the world, according to a recent report by Transparency International.

Meanwhile, the report ranked Denmark, New Zealand and Finland as the top list of ‘clean’ countries in the Corruption Perceptions Index.

Delia Ferreira Rubio, President of Transparency International said the analysis is an indication and underscores the growing need for reforms in political integrity by world leaders.

“Frustration with government corruption and lack of trust in institutions speaks to a need for greater political integrity,” said the group’s head, Delia Ferreira Rubio.

The head of the global civil society organization said that the world leaders must urgently combat corruption that has become rampant on an unprecedented scale.

“Governments must urgently address the corrupting role of big money in political party financing and the undue influence it exerts on our political systems.”

According to the report, released on Thursday, the most corrupt nation went to Somalia, with just nine points.
South Sudan, Syria and Yemen finished just above it, behind a group of countries sharing 173rd place that included Afghanistan and Venezuela.

The analysis perceived public-sector corruption in 180 nations and uses a scale on which 100 is seen as very clean and zero is very corrupt.

Established in 1993, Transparency International (TI) is an international non-governmental organization based in Berlin, Germany and its main goal is to take action to combat global corruption and prevent criminal activities arising from it.
