June 11, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan army said on Wednesday that it has postponed the graduation of the necessary unified forces, which is provided for in the revitalized peace agreement, over shortage of funds.

Major. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) spokesman said the Joint Defense Board (JDB), the body created by the revitalized peace agreement to oversee the implementation of the security arrangements, has made a financial request to the National Transitional Committee to cover the costs of the graduation.

“We had logistical challenges, the Joint Defense Board had presented a financial request to the National Pre-Transitional Committee to facilitate the graduation of the forces but the mobilization of financial resources has been a little bit difficult,” Lul said today.

“They are chasing with the bank, as soon as that money gets into the account of JDB or JSTC, then they will embark on purchasing the minimum requirements for the forces to be graduated,” Lul added.

Lul who is also a member of the JDB said the process of graduation will be made in phases starting with 3,000 VIP protection force and then followed by the unified police which is now being trained in Rejaf.

“We are going to graduate 3,000 VIP protection forces that is the first group. Then they will be followed by the unified national police service at Rejaf, and then the rest of the necessary unified forces are going to be graduated simultaneously,” he said.
