South Sudan police service arrests SPLM-IO officials in Juba
Oct 4, 2020(SSNN) — The South Sudan police service has arrested two officials that are identified as members of the main armed opposition, SPLM/A-IO, in the capital, Juba.
The two members who were arrested on Saturday are identified Abraham Manyiel and William Manyiel Martin from Wulu County of Lakes State.
According to eyewitnesses, they were arrested at Gure and they are being detained at the Rock City near Jebel Kujur.
“The arrest and detention of our members is the violation of the Revitalized Agreement, 2018.” Said a senior member of the SPLM/A-IO who reported the matter to South Sudan News Now.
“Their arrest and subsequent detention is against the Agreement.” He continued.
According to the official, who did not consent to be identified in this article, further said their members “have not committed any crime but their crime is being members of the SPLM-IO.”
“We condemn illegal arrest and detention. The SPLM-IG Police Service should release them immediately before we make official complaint to the relevant body.” He continued.
South Sudan police services has been given authority to arrest even without seeking warrants which has so far has been violated as police can arrest citizens at random.
While the security arrangement is still pending, South Sudan police service is not considered inclusive as each of the warring factions has trained seperate police, army and security forces.
