South Sudan: Over 1,332 government employees do not have academic documents- Minister
Oct 7th, 2019 (SSNN) — South Sudan’s government has verified at least 1,332 senior officials who have been working without verified academic documents.
The revelation came after the government began to identify civil servants who were legally employed through the Ministry of Labor, Public Service and Human Resources Development.
“So people are just being employed, whether they are qualified or not qualified, depending on who is the leader, either at the top or somewhere in the middle at the ministry,” said Minister of Cabinet Affairs Martin Elia Lomuro last week.
He revealed that some senior government officials who do not have academic documents hold high positions in offices, which is in fact inconsistent with government policies.
“Some of them were even promoted by the institution itself which is illegal,” Martin added.
Out of 14,000 government employees, the minister disclosed that only 6114 of them were found at the workplace, unfortunately, without recognized documents.
“We found 6,114 employees out of 14,009, but we could not locate any record of their education,” he said.
In the same development, the minister announced that the government plans to lay off aging employees in order to provide opportunities for young graduates who are currently looking for decent jobs in the country.
