Oct 7th, 2019 (SSNN)-The Joint Transitional Security Committee (JTSC) has graduated a group of 540 military trainers at the Mapel Military Training Center, according to a member of the AJMCC – the trained military officers drawn from all sides, will start training both government and opposition forces.

“The team of JTSC has graduated 540 instructors that will be going to train a unified national army[before] the formation of South Sudan’s national army, (SSPDF),” said General Deng Deng Luol, JTSC’s Head of Operations and Training.

Last year, South Sudan government and opposition armed groups signed a peace agreement to end the ongoing conflict. However, training and possible unification of forces are some of the pending unimplemented R-ARCSS activities.

In August, South Sudan’s peace partners reached a consensus that at least 50% of the 83,000 unified forces should be cantoned and barracked, trained and deployed before the end of September, however, the agreed deadline came to an last month.
