S. Sudan’s longest-serving justice minister dies, coronavirus not ruled out

April 12, 2020 (SSNN) — Former South Sudan justice minister, Paulino Manawila, has died this evening, government spokesman and information minister Michael Makuei Lueth said.

Manawila, Makuei said, died at the Juba Medical Complex at around 4:45 PM where he was rushed after suffering a heart rupture after doctors couldn’t help him.

However, sources close to the country’s longest serving justice minister said he had some respiratory complications before he was rushed to the hospital.

The sources could not however rule out coronavirus.

“He had issues with breathing. We don’t know if this could be coronavirus because he also had fever cough and many issues,” one source told South Sudan News Now from Juba.

However, Michael Makuei said doctors could not resuscitate him after suffering what was believed to be a ruptured heart vessel, according to Eye Radio.

Manawila has been South Sudan’s justice minister for seven years until his recent replacement by by Ruben Madol Aroi.
