OPINION: WHO IN SOUTH SUDAN IS WAITING FOR SANITIZER FROM THE WEST?

March 20, 2020 (SSNN) — Even though my subject issue is not supported by research evidence, am convinced that it will work. Commercial or medical sanitizer may have 10% or more alcohol with some added ingredients as hand sanitizer but what we have locally available has higher alcohol in it and is safe.

Alcohol produced from dates, sugar and yeast by our women have very high percentages of alcohol which could be used to dis-infect and fumigate the room safely. Just get it in a spray bottle, spray the tables and any item in the room. If you don’t have it, you can easily get it from your neighbor. I wish I thought of this during those days of cholera outbreak. We may not have tea tree oil but aloe Vera to add to our hand sanitizer is abundant to extract the juice from. Do we have to wait which we may not get?

My father once told me that in 1400 through 1700, whenever there were outbreaks of diseases and the medicinal plants could work and many children continued to die Hence, the children who survived in the villages are gathered one side and those still unaffected on the other side. Tears from those who survived collected on the leaves. The children therefore who couldn’t produce tears were beaten to produce some. Tears are then taken and dropped into the eyes of all healthy children. Most of these children survived.

Today, I come to know that it was inoculation (antibodies). This was giving a mild form of the disease so that the body could make its own soldiers to fight against foreign antigens. When you don’t have tools to use, you need to create one. In my life time, I noticed most good things are discovered at the time when people were desperate for a solution. Have we really tried to mimic those people who discovered iron to make spears and cultivation tools? We have all ceased to think because we have a lot of readymade to use. Sometimes I blame wars because we keep on running to and fro with no time left to think.

Our forests are full of medicinal plants. We know some of them and it is time we are not selfish but to show or try them with others. Try more other plants and if they work, you would have saved lives. This shouldn’t be only for Covid-19.There has been many outbreaks of diseases before and we shall survive this one too.

Kiir’s diseases almost wipe us out, and we needs to overcome this one. God bless us all.
