Opinion: Lual Aköök, a thorn in the flesh in the Statehouse and the devil that terrorized Juba
By Aman Dictor Mabior,
June 4, 2020(SSNN) — I’ve lived in Juba for some times, and this is not the first time I’ve heard of Lual-Marine’s acts of impunity.
Mr. Lual Aköök aka ‘Lual-Marine’ is known around Juba town as the privileged son of the president, Salva Kiir Mayar. Besides his strong physical resemblance with the president, he also comfortably resides inside the J1 palace, with his presumptive surrogate father. As far as his biological connection to kiir is concerned, the self proclaimed royalist of J1, prides himself around Juba as the son of Kiir. He, and only he, perpetuated the tale and the narrative of being Kiir’s begotten son.
As you’ve witnessed in the recent unfolding of events, pressured J1 is desperately trying to distant itself from the now deceased, egotistical maniac, Lual-Marine; even describing him as a ‘distant relative’. What a sham. Very comical!
Culturally, in Jieng’s traditions, when a man dies at a young age, his wife can be sired by other men, either within the immediate family or outside of it. This customary practice is known as ‘alo hoot’ (excuse my dinka, it’s as weak as Juba’s regime) and children conceived as a result of the spawning can be identified and accepted by family members as offspring of the man who originally married their mother. This, we suspect, could be the connection between Lual-Marine and Salva Kiir.
The luxury, the power and the immunity he has enjoyed for years in Juba are akin to those connected to the beneficiaries of the regime.
Acts of impunity are his daily bread. Everyone knows him in Juba. Everyone fears him in Juba! He has never got arrested, imprisoned or brought to justice for his countless crimes in South Sudan. Such privilege, signifies, without doubt, endorsement from J1’s highest, Kiir. He is also believed to be highly revered and unconditionally supported by first lady, Ayen, whom he married her brother’s daughter (nyande Gregory Vascilli) last year. This has strengthened his boastful claims of royalty around Juba town.
As the legendary, American civil rights fighter, MLK once uttered – “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, and tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
This quote of MLK couldn’t be more precise in bonding us as the long time sufferers of selflessness and hopeful devotees of freedom for all, and not just a select few.
And so, isn’t an act of impunity to one, also an act of impunity to all?
Again, supporters of the regime have opportunistically embodied themselves with lack of compassion and sadism. Some do it for self advancement, some do it for emotional joyride. Regionalism is far from this but individualism.
Everyone knows that many Rek people have carried Kiir’s presidency as a pride of privilege, impunity, nonliability and indemnity to endless wealth and opportunities. And indeed, Kiir’s kleptomanic governance has benefited many of them, while the true liberators of South Sudan are reduced to the sidelines as helpless onlookers. In a country where tribal kinship can exempt you from liability, many Rek descendants do enjoy immunity in Juba.
The six innocent souls killed by an errand, self proclaimed son of president is reason enough to arouse offence and resentment against the regime.
Lual is a known criminal to Dinka Bor people living in Sherikat (and not for the good reason). He has been torturing them for no apparent reason, robbing their goats and pigs at gunpoint (because he thinks he is the only one entitled to own goats and pigs). He arms the gang groups with pangas. He could pick and cane anyone for no reason and could drive at speed of his choice pouring dirty pool’s waters on the pedestrians and you can’t cough because he (with his stupid bodyguards) can make you regret being on this earth.
For over seven years, Lual-Marine has been a dangerous delinquent and an evildoer in the lives of those calling Juba home, and no one can object his acts of impunity because he is a self proclaimed royalist of J1 and endorsed son of statehouse.
He has no respect for no one, not even to destitute liberators and long standing servants of the land. His lack of respect has manifested itself many times in Juba: one example was during the scarcity of fuel, people scrambled over fuel due to its shortage, he would beat or slap high ranking generals despite their ranks.
- In another instance, he assaulted and canned in front of horrified bystanders, well known and respected General, Bol Kot in Juba town last year.
-
he also choked an innocent man to death last year, in a show of defiance and dominance. He was never charged either.
-
his ragging feud and constant rape of Equatorian women and girls is no secret.
Who else can act as such if not someone with the power of nonliability behind him?
Let Salva Kiir Mayar come clean, and let justice prevail quick. If no justice, there will be no peace in South Sudan!
