July 1, 2020 (SSNN) – The newly appointed governors have been sworn in today at the state-house J1 in a ceremony administered by the chief justice Chan Reec Madut, a senior government official has told South Sudan News Now.

Kiir on Monday appointed eight of the ten state governors and snubbed the appointment those for Upper Nile and Jonglei state.

The SPLM-IO which has been allocated the SPLM-IO nominated General Johnson Olony, but the president said he is a divisive person and would not be happy to work with him because his presence as the governor in the already divided state will further jeopardize peace efforts.

This morning, a senior SPLM-IO official said Kiir demanded the replacement of Johnson Olony, or else he creates an administrative area for the Apadang community where the complaint against Olony originated.

The ceremony was conducted in presence of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny, Vice-President James Wani Igga, Vice President Hussein Abdelbaggi, Vice President Rebecca Garang and Vice President Taban Deng.

Speaking after the governors took oath, Kiir urged the new governors to deliver services to the people of the war-affect nation and urged them to fight corruption at all levels in the states and warned that corruption will not be tolerated.

“I call upon you to deliver service to the people. Go and fight corruption at all levels of your government because this time, corruption will not be tolerated,” Kiir said.
