NAS members accused of purchasing military uniforms in Khartoum

Four members of the National Salvation Front captured in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.

February 3rd, 2020 (SSNN)— The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), paramilitary group in Sudan has arrested four rebel members allied to South Sudan’s armed opposition group, the National Salvation Movement (NAS), an armed opposition faction led by Former Deputy Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Thomas Cirillo Swaka.

In a statement issued by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the four members of the rebel faction were accused of complicity in the purchase of 150 military fatigues.

“Disturbing security and safety, purchasing uniforms and military insignia, stirring up war against the state, transnational organized crime, sabotage and war, disturbing relations with South Sudan and working to create tensions between the two countries,” said the RSF spokesman, Jamal Juma.

The Spokesperson of the RSF said that they had incredible reports about their presence in Khartoum their intention to procure military uniforms and to smuggle them by land to South Sudan.

The statement quoted a commander of the National Salvation Front as saying that he had been assigned by the top military command to purchase about 300 uniforms for their forces stationed in the Upper Nile region.

For his part, the spokesman for the National Salvation Front, Suba Samuel confirmed that the Sudanese armed forces had arrested their members in Khartoum and that the case is being followed up with relevant authorities.

“We are still investigating the issue to know what happened exactly. We are not aware of the issue of military uniforms, so we are yet to get more details,” he pointed out.

The National Salvation Front, is an opposition group that did not sign the R-ARCSS in 2018.
