‘Museveni caught unaware by Kiir’s decision on the states’ issue

February 15, 2020 (SSNN)—Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has not been informed by his close ally, President Salva Kiir about the decision that led to the amalgamation of the country’s 32 states, according to an official who declined to be named for fear of reprisal.

“President Museveni was unaware of the decision taken by his South Sudanese counterpart [referring to Kiir], he was not consulted about the matter,” the source said.

Today, President Salva Kiir and high-ranking government officials including all his deputies approved and passed a resolution, in which they decided to return the country to its previous ten states, a decision that the opposition strongly praised.

“We note the decision taken by President Slava Kiir in that respect, declaring that the administration of the country shall revert to the previous ten States plus three administrative areas, We consider the decision as a giant step forward in the resolution of the issue and we wholeheartedly welcome the spirit of compromise shown by the President on the matter,” said Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin, prominent opposition leader and head of the National Democratic Movement.

Meanwhile, the president issued a presidential decree this evening, dismissing all governors of the defunct 32 states.
