June 9, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan information minister and government spokesman Michael Makuei Lueth has finally returned to office after a battle with COVID-19 ended in his favor, the ministry of information said in a statement this afternoon.

“The National Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Michael Makuei Lueth resumed his official duty on Tuesday,” it said in a brief statement on Facebook.

Makuei is one of several senior South Sudan government officials who have recovered from the respiratory sickness this week, according to the country’s ministry of health and the high-level taskforce on COVID-19.

First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny and his wife Angelina Teny, who is also the country’s defense minister, were tested positive for COVID-19 along with Makuei in mid May and were discharged from quarantine yesterday after two tests came back negative for the virus.
