Makuei, Lomoro test positive for COVID-19
May 19, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan information minister Michael Makuei Lueth and Cabinet affairs minister Martin Elia Lomoro have both tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, sources inside the high-level taskforce said.
One source said Makuei had refused to give blood samples last month but was convinced earlier this month to do so and his test result returned positive yesterday along with Martin Elia who had also refused to test.
“Information Minister Michael Makuei has tested positive with coronavirus. He refused to give samples in April but he and Elia Lomoro were convinced on 13 May to give their samples and the tests returned positive on Monday,” one member inside the high-level taskforce told South Sudan News Now from Juba.
Another source said the two men were in a very stable condition and none of them was showing symptoms of the virus.
South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny and his wife Angelina Teny who is the minister of defense both announced that they have been infected by the deadly disease. They urged the people to exercise social distancing measures to curb the spread of the virus.
