Machar to name new deputy minister of interior
June 9, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan’s First Vice President and leader of the Sudans People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) Dr. Riek Machar will – this week – name a new deputy minister of interior after his aide Mabior Garang de’Mabior resigned.
Mabior who is also the SPLM-IO chairperson of national committee for information and public relations resigned last week saying President Salva Kiir Mayardit was not adhering to the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.
He said it was hard for him to work with Kiir because the South Sudanese head of state was acting outside the 2018 revitalized peace agreement and was hampering its implementation.
James Gatdet Dak, the press secretary in the office of the First Vice President said Mabior Garang has the right to resign and said Machar – who has just recovered from COVID-19 – was working to name another official to take over the position.
“It is his right to decide to decline [the position] but the leadership will see what to do with it will recommend somebody who will be nominated to the position,” Gatdet said.
