Machar free to go anywhere – official

April 9th 2019 (SSNA) – An opposition official has claimed that Machar is free to go anywhere after he was allowed by the regional body, the IGAD, to attend a spiritual meeting organized in the Vatican by Pope Francis.
Machar’s is currently in the Sudanese capital Khartoum according to opposition officials closed to him saying they have not yet been informed by the IGAD if there is any change to Machar’s condition.
“After this invitation of spiritual retreat …the ministry of foreign affairs in Ethiopia want to clarify to the people that the current president of Ethiopia who is the president of IGAD country lifted the restriction of Dr. Riek Machar,” an opposition official was quoted by the Eye Radio as saying.
However, in an apparent confirmation that Machar’s invitation has not been approved by the IGAD, the Director of Information and Public Relations for the SPLM-IO, Puok Both Baluang said this evening that no updates have been received from the IGAD whether Machar will go or not.
The meeting is expected to take place on Wednesday which is few hours away. President Salva Kiir and his FVP, Taban Deng Gai are already and no single member of the opposition has been reported to have gone there.
