June 16, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has for the first time since his return from quarantine chaired a cabinet meeting of the governance cluster in the revitalized unity government.

Machar tested positive for COVID-19 in May last month and has been on quarantine until last week when he was confirmed to have recovered by the doctors. The opposition leader did not however return to work until yesterday.

In a statement, Machar’s office said First Vice President chaired a cabinet governance cluster this afternoon, which is the first by him since his return to the office.

“The Governance Cluster of the Council of Ministers in the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) held a meeting today, Tuesday, 16 June, 2020, in the Council of Ministers Meeting Hall,” the statement seen by South Sudan News Now partly reads.

The meeting, according to the statement, “discussed and outlined respective functions and duties of various Ministries which are members of the Governance Cluster.”
