June 9, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has been warned by a group of Bul intellectuals against plans to remove presidential advisor on security, Tutkew Gatluak Manime.

This comes after reports that the president was planning to remove Tutkew after a group of community leaders from Bahr el-Ghazal and Warrap in particular complained that Tutkew was providing weapons to Bul youth who use it to attack Warrap.

In a statement this afternoon, the Bul Intellectuals in Juba said they would remain loyal to the president and appreciated him for standing with them but warned that removal of Tut Gatluak will not be a good decision for the president and the country.

“We, the Bul Intellectuals in Juba, would like to appreciate your wise leadership for always working hard to make sure that, our beloved country South Sudan has permanent peace we also acknowledge your efforts for signing the revitalized peace agreement on the resolution of conflict in south Sudan in letter and spirit,” the statement extended to Sudans Post partly reads.

“You have been tirelessly working since the formation of SPLM in 1983 [until] when south Sudan has got its independence in 2011 and you have  never betrayed your own people and you are still doing meaningful transformation to compare south Sudan with the developed countries of the world,” the statement said.

Intellectuals’ body further assured Kiir that they “would like to appreciate and congratulate your leadership since you appointed our beloved son Hon. Tut Gatluak as Presidential Advisor on National Security Affairs.”

“The Bul Intellectuals will always rally behind you and support your leadership in various ways because you have appointed our trusted son Cde. Tut Gatluak but removing him will not be a good decision for the country.”
