June 24, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan’s president Salva Kiir Mayardit has on Monday formed a fact-finding committee to probe the ongoing inter-communal violence in the country’s restive Jonglei state.

The action by Kiir comes after months of revenge attacks between the Lou-Nuer and Murle community which has killed hundreds of people from both sides.

In a decree readout on the state-owned SSBC on Monday, Kiir constituted an investigation committee head by vice president James Wani Igga and will be deputized by former Presidential Advisor on military affairs Daniel Awet Akot.

No member of other parties making up the coalition government was appointed.
