June 17, 2020 (SSNN) – A planned meeting between South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his first deputy Dr. Riek Machar Teny who is also the chairperson of the SPLM-IO has been aborted, a senior government official said today.

The meeting was called upon by the Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi last week to bring together the former South Sudan foes to discuss the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement and especially the deadlock on the allocation of states.

Speaking to South Sudan New Now this afternoon, a senior government official said from Juba on condition of anonymity that the meeting had been cancelled by Cairo over bunch of work to do at home.

“The meeting which was supposed to take place next week in the capital of Egypt, Cairo, has been cancelled,” the official said.

“The government of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has said that they will contact the president and the First Vice President again,” the official said.
