Kiir, 5 Vice-Presidents convene first meeting, calling for forgiveness
February 26, 2020 (SSNN)—South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the newly appointed Vice-Presidents, have held a meeting for the first time since the formation of the unity government, and called upon all citizens to open a new chapter and embark on reconciliation in the country.
“Today, February 26th, 2020, the Presidency of the Republic of South Sudan met for the first time since the appointment of the all five (5) vice presidents last week: 2. The meeting was chaired by His Excellency the President of the Republic and in attendance were; H.E. Dr. Riek Machar, the 1st Vice President and Vice Presidents, Excellences; Dr. James Wani Igga, Taban Deng Gai, Hussein Abdelbagi Akol and Mama Rebecca de Mabior,” said the PPU.
According to the Presidency, the meeting discussed the ongoing violence between the Murle tribe and Lou Nuer community that has reportedly killed an unconfirmed number of people and displaced hundreds of civilians from the areas.
“The meeting discussed the security situation in Jonglei and greater Pibor area and it has strongly condemned the violence that is taking place in the area.”
The statement confirms that President Kiir and his five deputies have begun to forgive each other and called on citizens to start reconciliation initiatives.
“The President and all the Vice Presidents have forgiven each other and urged all the South Sudanese also to forgive them and pray for them so we embark on reconciliation, forgiveness and healing of our broken social fabric.”
The South Sudanese leaders urged Internally Displaced Persons and refugees to leave refugee camps and the United Nations’ protection sites as the country enters a new era of peace.
“The Presidency call on our people in POCS to come out and for those refugees in neighboring countries to return home and resettle. The Government will do its utmost best to ensure they are supported to resettle in their home areas.”
“Finally the Presidency calls out on SSOMA Group to join the peace process. The government expects the upcoming meeting with SSOMA in Rome to produce breakthrough in this process.”
“The Presidency also wants to inform the people of South Sudan that there are committees from all sides working on the allocation of the Ministries and the cabinet will be announced as soon as the committees finish the task.”
