Kampala’s meeting between Kiir and Machar adjourned – Opposition Official

Nov 5th, 2019 (SSNN)-The 3rd round of face-to-face meetings between President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Chairman and Commander in Chief of the SPLM/A-IO, Dr. Riek Machar Teny has been postponed until Thursday, November 7/ 2019, said the SPLM (IO) Director for Information and Public Relations, Puok Both Baluang in a statement released on Tuesday.

“On the 3rd Face-To-Face Meeting Between H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit and H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon in Kampala, Uganda, The SPLM/SPLA (IO), would like to inform members and the public at large that the 3rd face-to-face meeting that initially scheduled today November 5th between H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan and H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, Chairman and Commander in Chief of the People’s Movement SPLM/SPLA (IO), and Designed First Vice President, in the Ugandan capital Kampala, has been adjourned to Thursday, November 7th, 2019 at the request of the Ugandan authorities.”

South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and First Vice-President-designate Dr. Riek Machar Teny are expected to hold the third round of face-to-face meetings in Kampala, Uganda, under the auspices of Ugandan President H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

“Along with the Two principals, the meeting is expected to be attended by the grantors of [the] Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda and H.E. 1st Lt. General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, Chairperson of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, to discuss the critical outstanding issues on the implementation of the revitalized agreement, and chart the way forward as the extended pre-Transitional period draws to a close without much having been achieved.”

The main armed opposition group, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), reaffirmed its sincere commitment to implement the peace agreement in good faith.

“The SPLM/SPLA (IO) reiterates its full commitment to the implementation of the (R-ARCSS), in letter and spirit, as the only way to attain lasting peace in South Sudan,” the SPLM-IO added.
