December 27th, 2019 (SSNN)—The Joint Transitional Security Committee (JTSC), a joint military mechanism mandated to report and supervise operations of South Sudan’s armed forces, has sent a team to oversee the deployment of more military instructors at Mapel and other training centers.

Deng Deng Luol, a member of the Joint Transitional Security Committee, said that the military instructors would be deployed and oriented before they begin the process of training the Necessary Unified Forces within the next two weeks.

“The JTSC team, headed by Lt Gen. Garang Ayii Akol has arrived at Wau Airport and they will be heading to Mapel Training Centres to deploy military instructors at three different Training Centres in Mapel, Pantiit and other designated Training Centers in Wau,” said Deng Deng Luol, senior officer of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance.

“Within the next two weeks, the training of the Unified Forces will begin at three training centers of the Greater Bhar El Ghazal region, under the command of Lt Gen. Garang Ayii Akol,” Deng added.

South Sudan’s parties signed a peace agreement in September last year, ending half of a decade of violence that has killed more than 400,000 people and displaced millions from their homes.

The implementation of Security Arrangements and determining the Number of States and their Boundaries remain the most challenging steps impeding the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
