June 12, 2020(SSNN) — Within less than a week following a fatal shooting at the Shirkaat-Bor park in the capital, Juba, which claimed seven lives and left dozen others wounded, the Bor youth who ran amok for days in Jonglei State capital have revealed hundreds of arsenals as the angry youth chant war songs and slogans against unidentified enemies.

For the last 5 days, the Bor youth have gone wild, protesting, looting and beating officials including police commissioner in Bor town.

“You have gone as far as beating the commissioner of police, then if you can beat the law, this is the man, the custodian of the law, who came to talk to you and you beat him” Hon. Michael Makuei said.

While some youth were arrested and elders like Michael Makuei Lueth, the chairman of Bor community, have called for calm, many Bor youth and intellectuals, both at home and in diaspora, remain outraged.

While president Salva Kiir has formed and sworn-in a committee to investigate the incident, he strongly promised justice and denied connections to the assassin who is controversially alleged to be his biological son or a nephew.

A revenge killing, alleged to have been committed by a brother or a relative of the shooter, is the latest incident connected to the Shirkaat-Bor park massacre. The victim of this shooting was Captain Manyang Chol Manyang who was a member of the presidential guards, and an ethnic Dinka-Bor.

Despite the Shirkaat incident, Bor-Dinka have had a rough co-existence with the Murle, Nuer and Equatorians for the last three to five decades and this latest development may send a mixed signal to their neighbors .

“I appeal in particular to the youth of Bor that what they are doing there is nothing other than adding more chaos and confusion” Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth said.

“You have allowed others to enter into your lives. Those who have other ultra objective are there within your lines and the slogan which were being shouted were shouted by those who have their own ultra objectives” Makuei continued.

Some senior generals including the former Chief of Staff, Gen. Gabriel Jok Riak, who is alleged to be under house arrest in Juba, have been accused to have armed the youth and are being investigated in connection to the Shirkaat and these retaliatory incidents.

The world’s youngest is losing it as many youth are getting armed by unknown sources. Inter-tribal conflicts have escaladeed in the last few weeks and they are currently increasing.
