Gov’t suspends issuance of COVID-19 certificates for negative tests

June 4, 2020 (SSNN) ā South Sudan’s ministry of health has suspended issuing documents certifying that someone has tested negative for COVID-19, the deadly respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
The minister of health Elizabeth Acuei Yol said in an order seen by South Sudan News Now (SSNN) that the decision by her institution came about after it discovered that some individuals around the airports were providing fake certificates for negative COVID-19 test.
“It has come to the attention of my office that some people, particularly around Juba International Airport (JIA) have been issuing fake Covid-19 negative test certificates,” the minister said in the order.
Acuei further said the practices is a “criminal undertaking that I take issue with seriously.”
“In light of the above and in the best interest of protecting the public from these criminal activities: I do hereby order for suspension of issuing of Covid-19 negativity certificates until further notice.”
