June 17, 2020 (SSNN) – A South Sudan government soldier has reportedly killed an internally displaced person who was returning to the UN protection of civilian’s site in the country’s capital Juba, an IDP told South Sudan News Now today.

The incident, the IDP who requested not to be named said, occurred on Monday evening when the unidentified man was on the way returning to the camp from the market. He was gunned down as he was about to enter the camp.

“The day before yesterday (Monday), an IDP who was returning from the market was killed by gunman who was not known to us,” the IDP said.

“But in the morning, when we go for burial, soldiers wearing South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) uniform fired at us and killed another person.”

The internally displaced person said as peace returns to the country, insecurity remains for those who are still seeking the protection of the United Nations.
