Fighting Continuing in Murle, Lou-nuer white army on their way to Pibor

June 21, 2020(SSNN) — For nearly two weeks, over ten thousands youth from the Nuer subs tribes of Lou, Gawaar and Jikany, and Dinka youth comprising of Nyarweng, Hol, Tui and Bor have invaded the tiny Murleland in a revenge attack they called a “peace mission”.

“This is a peace mission. We are only going to recover our cattle, children and women who were stolen by the Murle. It is a self-defense” Reads part of the white army report.

For the first time, the Nuer and Dinka sub-tribes of Jonglei state unanimously converge on Pibor in thousands in what they believe is a” self-defense” following Murle offensives in their areas that saw hundreds of people killed and thousands herds of cattle raided.

“What do you expect, Murle every day. Murle everywhere. They are killing our people and raiding our livelihood. This is our last resort” The leader of the white army James Gatluak said.

While the Gawaar-Nuer, who are leading the operations, are reported to be over 5, 000, the Dinka youths are expected to be over 2000 but majority of them have reportedly abandoned the mission and returned to Bor town.

Reports from Lankien, Lou-nuer, indicate that the Lou-nuer white army, who just left, have mobilized in large numbers and are now heading to Pibor.

South Sudan government in Juba is aware of these inter-tribal clashes but the government is doing very little to intervene.

Murle Attack Makuach, Bor county

In retaliation, the Murle youth are reported to have attacked Makuach, Atet and Alian of Bor county between June 17 and 19, killed many people and raided cattle.
