Ex-ambassador Ring resigns from SPLM-IG, swifts allegiance to SPLM-IO
February 21, 2020 (SSSNN)—South Sudan’s Presidential Advisor on Legal Affairs, Telar Ring Deng has submitted his resignation to President Salva Kiir Mayardit and pledged allegiance to the main opposition group, SPLM-IO ahead of the formation of the Transitional Government of National Unity.
In a statement, Ring said that his resignation from the government was driven by a number of factors.
“It is with regret that I tender in my resignation as a member of the SPLM – IG. This follows my observation that it is evidently clear we can no longer work together based on a number of reasons I don’t want to indulge myself into in this particular notice of resignation,” he said.
He expressed his appreciation to President Kiir for giving him such good opportunities to serve the people of South Sudan in various sectors.
“May I take this opportunity to thank you for all the opportunities you have given me to serve the Republic of South Sudan as a State Minister in Khartoum, Caretaker Governor of Lakes State, Presidential Advisor on Legal Affairs and South Sudan Ambassador to the Russian Federation under you. I have enjoyed working with you, but I feel that now the time has come for me to tender in my resignation and seek other political avenues as I continue pursuing serving the people of South Sudan,” he added.
“Last but not least, I take this opportunity again to thank you and everyone in the SPLM – IG that I had the opportunity and pleasure to work with over the years since the inception of the SPLM in 1983. I had enjoyed being part of the liberation struggle leading to the Independence of South Sudan.”
Ring joins the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-IO (SPLM-IO)
The former government official said his plan to join the opposition is to achieve a reform agenda that he believes would bring peace in the country.
“I am glad to officially write to you my intention to join SPLM – IO. This note confirms my unwavering support for your leadership. The sole interest of joining the SPLM –IO is to pursue the reforms agenda; rule of law and good govermance as envisaged in the Revitalised Agreement for the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
