Egyptian President and South Sudan counterpart discussed bilateral ties and regional security
Nov 28, 2020(SSNN) — His Excellency Abdel Fattah Al- Sisi, President of Arab Republic of Egypt was today morning received upon arrival at Juba International Airport by His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan.
“His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit welcomed his Egyptian Counterpart, His Excellency Abdel Fattah Al- Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt and his accompanying delegation in his Office and discussed a wide range of bilateral issues” President Kiir’s office said
In the meeting, President Sisi expressed his readiness to Support the implementation of the Revitalized Peace agreement, where required.
He also pledged the Egyptian full support in alleviating some of the challenges facing South Sudan such as the impact of falling oil prices, COVID-19 pandemic and recent devastating flood across the Country.
The two leaders agreed on the need to enhance mutual cooperation in areas of education, healthcare, media, energy, trade and investment, and infrastructural connectivity especially with respect to road and rail links.
The South Sudanese said his government strongly believes that the Egyptian leadership and expertise can make a huge difference in the development of his country.
“President Salva Kiir said, South Sudan Government strongly feels Egyptian leadership and expertise in these areas can make a difference in the developmental priorities.” Said Salva Kiir’s press secretary.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit and President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi broadly discussed matters relating to water resources management, especially Egyptian readiness to use their expertise to help mitigate the impact of floods both in short and medium terms through dredging water sources and water harvesting methods such as dams construction.
On regional matters, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi commended South Sudan mediation of Sudanese conflict.
President Sisi also explained Egypt’s position on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
On his part, President Salva Kiir Mayardit underlined South Sudan’s position on the importance of dialogue in dealing with issues affecting regional stability.
As well as also he stressed South Sudan’s firm commitment to regional solidarity and responsibility as Africans to seek African solutions to African problems.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit and President Abdel Fattah Al- Sisi held an extensive meeting with their teams and pledged to work at official level towards the realization of the goals they set for themselves in various areas of their discussion.
In conclusion, President Salva Kiir Mayardit thanked President Abdel Fattah Al- Sisi for visiting South Sudan and for the important discussions they held.
